The Path to 1000 Ways to Sit
The origin and expansion of the physical meditation container and its intersection with Stone Forging.
A postcard flyer, nine years, and the feeling that is the secret
November 24, 2025 • Kamau Zuberi Akabueze
This is the story of how a postcard flyer stayed on my desk for nine years, waiting. How a feeling remembered became a path materialized. How terma emerges when the practitioner is ready to step onto the training floor.
I met Aaron Taylor Kuffner's work around 2016 in Brooklyn. At the time, my body was navigating deep institutional friction—a subtle, persistent tension where creative spark was constantly negotiated. Yet, I possessed a mind deeply attuned to the interplay of the physical and the digital. Aaron's Gamelatron emerged as an active physical-digital coordinate that resonated with stunning, quiet clarity.
In that moment of encounter, my somatic coordinates shifted. I recognized a rare discipline in the work and knew I would practice with this creative technology at some point in my life. I took a postcard flyer from his show, carrying the raw feeling of that resonance to remember the alignment that was possible.
The feeling is the secret—thanks, Neville Goddard.
That postcard flyer remained on my desk in my home office. Through seasons. Through projects. Through the birth and growth of my son—who taught me the raw essence of active creation. He showed me how naturally we forge when we are free from the institutional structures that attempt to organize and box our spark.
In the professional world, this friction is palpable. It lives as a physical weight, an institutional resistance felt directly in the body—the tension of a space that celebrates creativity in name while constraining it in practice. I call this somatic friction a Shim Sham. The term emerged from my cells, born from the direct sensation of that corporate paradox. When I felt the word resonate within my chest, I recognized the vibration as a somatic compass. The Shim Sham is the bodily knowing that tells us when we are negotiating our spark rather than breathing it.
Recognizing the Shim Sham was the catalyst that materialized THE ÅLïEN SCõÖL for Creative Thinking. In the midst of that intense corporate paradox, the somatic resonance woke me up with the absolute clarity of those words: The Alien School. We train where the friction is felt, turning the tension of the Dojo into the fuel of realization. Terma emerges in the tertön when they commit to the training.
I met Aaron in 2021 while curating an exhibition called LIGHTwork for a Gallery Walk called The Magic Hour, founded by a close creative ally at the South Street Seaport. That fateful meeting gave birth to a fruitful friendship between fathers. A connection that would eventually lead to the activation of 1000 Ways to Sit :: A Gamelatron Sonic Sanctuary.
In February 2025, I moved from Jersey City, NJ to Gastonia, North Carolina—into a family home with my brother Omar Luqmaan Harris and my sister Sameerah Harris. We are all children of Samuel Roland Harris, inheriting his chemistratic discipline and lineage. Omar and Sameerah were born from his second marriage, and our deep bond has always anchored us at family gatherings at First Baptist Church of McDonald. It is a powerfully creative home, alive with shared purpose and quiet strength.
The postcard flyer came with me. Nine years of holding that feeling. Nine years of knowing something was waiting to materialize, practicing active preparation.
Today, right now, I am sitting in 1000 Ways to Sit :: A Gamelatron Sonic Sanctuary in San Francisco, California, hosting regular Creative Steeping events.
The postcard flyer materialized into an active training ground. The feeling remembered became a physical container for presence—1000 Ways to Sit. The nine years were active patience—the quiet, disciplined practice of trusting the rate of materialization while tending the cellular connection. This is the Dojo in action, where trust operates as the ultimate coordinate.

The stepping stones were always there. They materialized as I stepped.
